With most of todays essays being digital, written on your laptop, we need a way to store them. Luckly, we have so many options open to us.
You can use a service like Dropbox, for example. Personally, I like to have them on my person. If I’ve spent hours, days and even weeks putting together an essay or report for a project, well, I like to keep it close. Infact, I will store it on a few devices.
First off I will have stored in on an external hard drive. There are so many available these days, personally I like the NAS drives (I like to be able to access them anywhere), but for privacy a small USB portable drive is just perfect, such as the Western Digital Passport drive. I love these because they are small enough to be portable, yet perfect for storing lots of data.
You may want to be more portable though. A USB key you think? This is my second backup of any file, and the one that I will carry around with me. The thing is, you need a good quality one. What you don’t want is to go to the computers on campus to print it out, and then find out your data is corrupted. You want a good quality USB with a good bit of storage. Personally, I’ve never gone wrong with Sandisk, though there are many other brands out there.
Ultimately, this may seem like the boring bits to read about – but a good storage device is important as you want to keep your data safe. You also want that portability, because you want to be able to work on campus and in your dorm room. A big part of being a student is doing that work – work that you need to secure. At the end the day, if you don’t do the work – well you won’t enjoy the fun times.
